Crews were called shortly before 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 19 to the 200 block of Prospect Avenue where there was a smoke detector that activated inside an area row home.

Upon arrival, firefighters rescued occupants from the roof of the residence and were able to knock down the flames and contain them to two of the nine units within the row, though others sustained smoke and water damage.

The fire is now under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office, though it is believed to have been accidental.

Residents displaced are being assisted by the Red Cross.
